Tips For A Healthy Home, Breathing Better Air
• Check your air filter every 3-4 weeks. Change disposable filters when loaded
with dirt.• Air filters protect coils and heat exchangers by keeping them clean. Clean filters prolong the life of your system and increase efficiency.
• Keep in mind, that a moderately dirty air filter is okay. When the filter becomes excessively dirty, it will make your furnace or air conditioning system work too hard. It is important to check your air filter frequently.
• How long an air filter lasts depends on your home environment. As the number of people and activity level increases, the airborne contaminants will also increase and your air filter will need to be changed more often. Other factors that contribute to airborne contaminants include remodeling in your home, construction near your home, pets living in your home, craft and woodworking projects, burning candles or wood burning stoves, smoking tobacco products, and heavy traffic either indoors or outdoors.
• We recommend that you run your system fan continually for better air cleaning performance from your air filter. The air filter can only clean air that circulates through it.
Frequently Asked Questions
MERV stands for minimum efficiency reporting value. As the name implies, this is the lowest level of performance provided by the filter during its useful life. MERV is an industry standard rating, which indicates a filter's ability to trap particles from the air we breathe. Tested particles range in size from 3.0 to 10.0 microns in diameter. Residential filters typically are rated in the range of MERV 1-12. Higher ratings indicate more efficient filters.
MERV simplifies your shopping experience. You can compare products and make an informed choice based on the relative performance of products. American Air Filter has been promoting the standard since 1997 and we are now seeing the industry follow our lead.

Dirt Demon® Ultra Electrostatic Pleated Air Filter
Our most efficient 1" air filter is rated MERV 8. This means the filter is 70-85% minimum efficient on capturing particles, sized 3.0-10.0 microns from the air passing through. In most homes Dirt Demon Ultra filters last up to 90 days.
Air Demon® Ultra High Efficiency 4" - 5" Air Filters
Air Demon is rated MERV 11. This means the filter is 85-95% minimum efficient on capturing particles, sized 3.0-10.0 microns from the air passing through. In most homes Air Demon filters last up to 6 months.
Air filter media is made of fiberglass, and natural or synthetic fibers. The performance of an air filter is affected by several factors:
• Size and density of the fibers: denser fibers can capture and hold more of the smaller particles found in the air. • Surface area of the face of the filter: pleated filters squeeze more filter media into the face of the filter and have a greater capacity for catching and holding dust and other particles. • Size and volume of particles flowing through the filter: when the air is heavily loaded with pollutants and larger particles, the filter will need to be changed more often.
