Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or “solvents” are very damaging to the environment and therefore VOC emissions are closely controlled by legislation. There are several methods of capturing solvent vapours and removing them from an airstream. The most certain is incineration where the solvent laden airstream is heated to a point where all the solvent vapours are destroyed but this process requires significant fuel input and is expensive to run. A more popular method is by the use of activated carbon where the carbon is either reprocessed in site or removed periodically for stripping of the solvent. AAF has extensive experience of these applications.
