A key part of materials handling and processing is the requirement to separate the product flow into different streams according to product size. The most popular way to achieve this is with the use of screens otherwise known as sieves. The screen may have a single mesh deck or have multiple decks. The mesh on each deck is selected for a specific aperture size. Product with a greater size than the apertures remain on the deck surface whilst those particles smaller than the deck apertures fall through, either for onward transport of for further segregation on the lower decks. To maintain constant flow of product across and through the screen the decks will be agitated with a shaking motion which gives rise to the names “vibratory screen”, “resonance screen” etc.  The screening process often gives rise to airborne dust so the screen must either be encapsulated or fitted with a close fitting hood or canopy. Ductwork will then convey the collected dust laden air to a remote filter. Organic dusts will often present an explosion hazard so ATEX requirements will apply. OptiFlo RC is a good choico collector for screening applications.
